Quimby Mouse

Quimby The Mouse from This American Life on Vimeo.

I’m a fan of Chris Ware’s work, and seeing an animated Quimby Mouse short like this is just bloody awesome. Ware has this sense of humor mixed with pathos. It leaves a sobering taste int your mouth.

The Adventures of Mark Twain

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

From IMDB

Based on elements from the stories of Mark Twain, this feature-length Claymation fantasy follows the adventures of Tom Sawyer, Becky Thatcher, and Huck Finn as they stowaway aboard the interplanetary balloon of Mark Twain. Twain, disgusted with the Human Race, is intent upon finding Halley’s Comet and crashing into it, achieving his “destiny.” It’s up to Tom, Becky, and Huck to convince him hat his judgement is wrong, and that he still has much to offer humanity that might make a difference. Their efforts aren’t just charitable; if they fail, they will share Twain’s fate. Along the way, they use a magical time portal to get a detailed overview of the Twain philosophy, observing the “historical” events that inspired his works.

I remember this part the most when I was a kid. I didn’t find it scary. I thought it was really cool. I’ll have to find the DVD to this eventually.

Baby Laugh A Lot will kill you

This toy is creepy. I have no idea if it ever did well. If I were a parent and my kid had this toy, I would get a baseball bat and holy water and make sure the damn thing could never laugh again!

Lando could’ve been a clone!

Here’s a link to a review of the first draft of Empire Strikes Back.

There’s some pretty interesting things in there. For example, a scene of Darth Vader in his castle. A lightsaber fight with Obi Wan Kenobi and Yoda (or Minch). An invasion of Wampas at the Hoth (in this draft its called Bespin) Rebel Base. And Lando is a fucking clone, a veteran of the Clone Wars who keeps cloning himself to stay immortal!!!

Why did we get a shitty Clone War with one guy being cloned? I mean, with all the freaking special effects that Lucas had, doubling up a person is probably one of the easiest things to do.

Anyway, there’s also a link to the 4th draft of Empire Strikes Back

Originally, this was a Shiina Ringo/Tomosaka Rei song, performed by Tomoasaka Rei. Its interesting hearing Shiina Ringo perform it, where she’s feels emotional, abrassive, as if her heart is bleeding. Where Tomosaka Rei is light, delicate, melodic and vulnerable.

The Tomosaka Rei version:

Has anyone ever met a hardcore Lady Gaga fan? Do they exist? I think the record companies figured something out.

You know your favorite band? They’re not as famous as they should be, right? But all the bands you hate are uber famous.

The record companies figured it out!
