Go!Go!7188 covers

Monday, July 12th, 2010

Its appearant that this is one of my favorite bands. It borders on cute, with Yuu and Akko’s vocals and awesome with their guitars.
This band is known for being retro, retro Japanese that is. A lot of the songs are covers to songs I’ve never heard before, so everything’s new to me.

Attack No.1

The original “Attack No.1″ seems to be about a bunch of teenage girls who play volleyball. There also seems to be a live-action remake of the series and other remakes of the song.

Cutie Honey

“Cutie Honey” is pretty well known in the US among Anime fans. Basically, its about a sexy superheroine. This has also been remade, several times in fact. There was a live action remake and other remakes of the song.

Hyokkori Hyoutan Jima

…or “Unexpected Gourd Island” was a 1960’s puppet show. So imagine a band doing a punk rock version of the theme to Sesame Street– awesome. There’s also been animated and puppet remakes over the years and Morning Musume popularized the song for another generation.

Pepper Keibu

A cover from Pink Lady. They were popular in the late 70’s and even made some notoriety in the states. I think Morning Musume did a cover. Its as if they’re doing the same covers but much less threatening.

K-On!

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

Lately I’ve been addicted to K-On! An anime about 4 (and later 5) japanese high school girls who are members of the school’s Light Music Club, an after school activity. It’s pretty funny with characters who play well off each other.

I’m posting the end credit song because I like it better:

I’ve developed a mild unhealthy cartoom crush on the bass player.

And here’s the first episode:

After watching that, you can look at stills of the school that K-On was based on. Uncanny.

Unfortunately, they could not film the porno paraody version of K-On at the real school (that would actually be awesome in a horribly awesome way)

…and they couldn’t get the hot teacher right either.

but this ain’t bad:

but just like the Anime, they can’t get the lip sync right.

and if you want to see a more NSFW version, and you are over 18, of the live action porno parody, click here!

…and hawtness dressed up all K-On like

Ghost in the Sea Lab

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

A great little mash-up between Sea Lab and Ghost in the Shell.

Bôa – Duvet

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

I was watching Serial Experiment Lain and I thought the theme was sung by the Korean Pop Star BoA. Its actually done by an English band called Bôa.

Ultraman Babies

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

Actually, its called “Ultraman Kid” or something like that.

The old Robotech series introduced an entire western generation to Anime. Rest in Peace Carl Macek.

Time of Eve

Saturday, April 17th, 2010

Time of Eve is one of those jewels that you find every now and then. The character development is touching. The animation is well done. The premise is deceptively simple.

It has an heir of Philip K Dick cyberpunk gnosis. Funny at times, serious at others, its everything that an Anime should be.

Plus, it was available for free… although it took several months for each 15 minute episode to come out. But not only is the entire series complete, there will be a movie that has all 6 episodes plus new footage… that will come out in selected theaters in Tokyo and Osaka…

Anyway, visit crunchyroll.com to check it out.

Haruhi and gum

Saturday, April 17th, 2010

I love The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumaya. And I will admittedly say that I have a crush on Haruhi. Unfortunately, the live-action representation of Haruhi is some weird fugly woman. I stated my distaste of this on facebook and my brother was able to renew my unhealthy cartoon crush with this cosplay photo:
