Go!Go!7188 covers

Monday, July 12th, 2010

Its appearant that this is one of my favorite bands. It borders on cute, with Yuu and Akko’s vocals and awesome with their guitars.
This band is known for being retro, retro Japanese that is. A lot of the songs are covers to songs I’ve never heard before, so everything’s new to me.

Attack No.1

The original “Attack No.1″ seems to be about a bunch of teenage girls who play volleyball. There also seems to be a live-action remake of the series and other remakes of the song.

Cutie Honey

“Cutie Honey” is pretty well known in the US among Anime fans. Basically, its about a sexy superheroine. This has also been remade, several times in fact. There was a live action remake and other remakes of the song.

Hyokkori Hyoutan Jima

…or “Unexpected Gourd Island” was a 1960’s puppet show. So imagine a band doing a punk rock version of the theme to Sesame Street– awesome. There’s also been animated and puppet remakes over the years and Morning Musume popularized the song for another generation.

Pepper Keibu

A cover from Pink Lady. They were popular in the late 70’s and even made some notoriety in the states. I think Morning Musume did a cover. Its as if they’re doing the same covers but much less threatening.

Bôa – Duvet

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

I was watching Serial Experiment Lain and I thought the theme was sung by the Korean Pop Star BoA. Its actually done by an English band called Bôa.

Tomosaka Rie

Monday, April 19th, 2010

Out of the collaboration that came from Shiina Ringo and Tomosaka Rie, this is one of my favorite songs. I have no idea what its about or what its called, but there’s a bunch of whistling. If you’ve ever driven around the hills and mountains of California during the Summer, I would imagine this would be the perfect soundtrack.

Ai Dake Ga – Emi Hinouchi

Saturday, April 17th, 2010

I like Emi Hinouichi more when she does acoustic rather than hip-hop. Most Japanese vocalists that I like sound good with a band. Her songs are better off simple.

Movits

Saturday, April 17th, 2010

If you haven’t paid any attention, by now, you can tell I like music that’s not in English… or sang by people who can’t speak English trying to sing in English.

Now I present to you the Swedish band Movits. Pretty Jazzy. Check it out.

“Come on Feet”

I’m uncertain when this was made, but it has some great puppetry and design.
